Course Overview

Gassan Legacy Golf Club, formerly known as Gassan Lake City, is a dramatic 18-hole, par-72 layout set around expansive lakes and framed by rice paddies just outside Chiang Mai. Extensively renovated in 2014 by the renowned Schmidt-Curley design team, the course now offers a modern championship challenge that favours accuracy over brute length.

Stretching to around 6,852 yards from the back tees, Gassan Legacy is defined by water in play on virtually every hole, demanding precise drives and carefully judged approaches. Fairways are gently rolling, with distinctive bunkering and mature trees shaping sightlines, while multiple teeing grounds ensure the course remains playable for a wide range of handicaps.

Greens are generally medium to large with subtle contours, and many are protected by water carries or deep bunkers that punish wayward shots. Several short par 4s tempt aggressive play from the tee, while longer par 4s and the closing stretch reward patient, strategic golf. It’s a risk–reward course that keeps you focused from the first tee to the final putt.

What to Expect

Expect a visually striking, water-heavy test where course management is key. Many tee shots require choosing between a safer lay-up line or a bold carry over water, and approach shots often play to peninsula or semi-island greens that test your nerve. The 17th, an S-shaped par 5 with water off the tee and a demanding second shot, is a particular highlight and can make or break your score.

The slightly quirky clubhouse provides all the essentials, including locker rooms, a pro shop and a restaurant serving Thai and international favourites. Practice facilities typically include a driving range and putting green, making it easy to warm up before your round. Gassan Legacy is an excellent choice to add variety and drama to any Chiang Mai golf itinerary, especially for golfers who enjoy strategic, water-laced layouts.
